Blind People Want Noisy Hybrids

Posted in In the News by Noah on October 5th, 2007

Blind people hate your Prius. Well, ok, they only hate that your Prius makes no noise.

As reported by groovygreen, the National Federation of the Blind is pushing for legislation to establish a minimum noise level for hybrids. While I guess not being able to hear a 3000 lb hunk of metal hurtling at you can have its drawbacks, there is something rather odd about a minimum noise requirement for vehicles.

  1. When I heard about this a year ago my solution was that they should install transmitters on the cars and receivers on the cane/something that would go off as the car came close. Every hybrid emits at the same frequency that the receiver would be tuned too. Although not overly expensive probably still not worth it though…

  2. Makes more sense than braille on drive through ATMs. :)
