Enzo on track with the SCDA

Posted in Motorsports Events by Noah on July 28th, 2009

So last Thursday I ran up at NHMS with the SCDA. There was the usual spread of cars ranging from the lowly Miata up to a couple of Gallardos and a Spec Racer Ford, and pretty much everything in between. But there was a more interesting addition this go around: a Ferrari Enzo made an appearance.

And the best part is that the owner took it out on the track! This is pretty much the one thing that keeps me from being jealous of nice cars: they really aren’t anything special just tootling around on the street. But once you take them out on a track, well, that’s pretty cool. He wasn’t going too hard, but neither would I with something worth $1.2 million. Still, definitely pretty cool.

  1. I was out instructing with the BMW Club on Sunday. Checked instructor-student assignments to find that my husband got the student with the Ferrari 575 Maranello. He’s also been an instructor mentor to the dude with the Audi R8. Of *course* he got to drive them both.

Me? I get the (older) M5. A nice Big Car whose owner was surprised I wasn’t drooling and exclaiming wildly when I drove it for him. Guess it’s better than the rental Buick I had to show someone how to drive once that tried damned hard to put us on the grass at turn three at NHMS.

    Life isn’t fair sometimes.

  2. My first student drove a Dinan M5 (and I got to drive it for a couple of slow laps). I was pretty impressed, but pretty much anything with any horsepower is a step up for me in that department. I also had a student with an R8. He knew NHMS so I didn’t drive it for him - which is just as well. I’d feel a little uncomfortable piloting something that costs as much as a small house!
